A stroke, also called a "Brain Attack", happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. Without blood, cells in the brain die, and the part of the body they control can no longer function.

The number of stroke victims is increasing, at least in North America, due to a rapidly aging population. Fortunately, research shows that the risk of stroke can be lowered significantly by adopting a healthy lifestyle and managing the risks.

It's never too late to start reducing the risk of stroke, even for those who have been diagnosed with a stroke-related condition. If you have had a stroke, it's possible to prevent another stroke from occurring.
